Soccer Image Sequence Computed by a Virtual Camera

In order to create more realistic soccer scene from TV images, we have developed an image synthesis system which generates an image sequence from the viewpoint of a player on the ground. This system is based in the camera calibration theory. First, it determines camera parameters of the a image by using intersection points of white lines drawn on the soccer ground. Secondly, it extracts players in each images and estimates their positions in the world coordinates. Finally, it applies running motion to the players at their respective positions and generates computer graphics animation from the viewpoint of any selected player. The system was tested for 7 sequences and showed satisfactory results.
